Gentle Chiropractic
for Hypermobile &
Highly Sensitive People

Stop me if you’ve heard this before.

You’ve tried chiropractic, and desperately wanted it to work, but every time you got adjusted it felt like they were going to hurt you.  The harsh twisting, thrusting, and popping always felt too aggressive.  Sometimes you got some relief, but most of the time you’d walk out feeling overworked or triggered.

People always say, “You’re lucky, you’re so flexible!”
You think, “Yeah, it’s great until the dog plows into my knee and hyperextends it so I limp for a week.”

You’ve asked doctors for help, and they’ve said there’s nothing wrong.  Or (my personal favorite) they told you to “come back when it gets worse.”  (That was sarcasm.  It’s not my favorite.  It makes me want to say mean things with copious swear words.)

You don’t want drugs (which you’re usually super sensitive to) or surgeries (which seem expensive and unnecessary).  And, you don’t want to wait until it gets worse.

You want to take care of it now.  You want to use movement, nutrition, lifestyle changes, and maybe some supplements to recover and rebuild before you get seriously injured.

You just want to feel healthy and stable, like you can rely on your body.

This is the work I love to do.

I help Hypermobile and Highly Sensitive People recover from pain and build resilient bodies
through gentle chiropractic care and tailored self-care strategies.

Hello! My name is Tom.

I’m a chiropractic doctor.

I’m hypermobile, highly sensitive, neurodivergent, and more.  I know what it’s like to have a body and mind that are subtly but profoundly different from the average human’s.

I understand the frustration that comes from being misunderstood.

Like many of my clients, I remember being bounced from doctor to physical therapist to specialist, etc., with no answer for the pain that I was feeling.

I know the irritation of having people tell me that things that I struggle with are super simple or no big deal.

I have witnessed several of my clients (especially women) get dismissed by doctors, specialists, and family members because their symptoms didn’t make sense, were too numerous, or didn’t show up on lab tests.

It turns out that this story is not very rare.  In fact, this is a story experienced by hypermobile and highly sensitive people all around us.

We don’t see it because many of us who experience this narrative don’t share it with others.  Maybe we don’t want to sound like we’re complaining.  Maybe there’s part of us that doubts whether it’s really happening, and not just in our heads.

Sometimes we’ve been told outright that it’s “all in our heads”.

This is bullshit.

Hypermobility affects more than 10% of the human population to some degree (some estimate as high as 25%).  High sensitivity (formally called Sensory Processing Sensitivity) is estimated to affect 15 to 20% of people.  (And, anecdotally, I’ve observed that the vast majority of my hypermobile folks have also turned out to be highly sensitive people.)

These are not especially rare traits.  They just have the unfortunate distinction of being difficult to see.

We deserve to be seen.  We deserve to be cared for.  We deserve to feel stable and healthy.

So I’ve decided to do things differently.

I’ve made it my mission to explore gentle methods for providing chiropractic and other forms of body work.

To figure out how to care for hypermobile, highly sensitive bodies.

To introduce nuance into self-care strategies so they actually work for those of us for whom details matter.  Those of us who don’t just get to simply get more sleep, exercise more, or eat better.

I’ve decided to find the healthcare professionals who will provide nuanced care.  Who will see people with numerous, strange, non-sensical symptoms and not say, “That doesn’t make sense to me.  It can’t be real.” but, “Let’s do some research and figure this out.”
